Hey I'm running a barrage ranger and an incendiary arrows ranger and i'm wondering whether its a good idea to equip vamp bows on them? I just bought two vamp bows (graygore's shortbow and vah's hornbow) for 2k each and they're my only bows available for my heroes. Is it a good idea, especially when i'm doing dungeons? I usually have one barrager/incendiary hero plus 2 monk heroes. will the pressure be too much?

barrage hero? zealous bow IMO
other rangers - either vamp / zea / sundering...pends on the area really / energy / hp of ranger hero

but those were the only bows i found at the time, and i don't have any others. Will my ranger hero be dead fast because of it and will the monks waste energy on healing him causing added pressure on the AI?

i am not a fan of vamp weps on heros and barrage should be 20/20 or zealous.

I assume you will have monks in your team. It's 2 health degen every second per wiki, so based on 480 health it will take 4 minutes (480/60/2=4, hope thats correct) to die from just standing around with no healing. Assuming you fight during your dungeon runs the vamp should easily equal what it takes off. Of course you are not accounting for the best bit the damage it causes as it is armor ignoring. So all in all it should be ok to use on the proviso you have healers in your team XD

kk! thanx guys. Its just because I couldn't pass on what seemed like a good deal so i bought 2 of those vamp bows for 2k each

so I'm stuck with them for my heroes. I'll get a zealous bow when I can afford it. Whats a nice, cheap, green, zealous bow? Wiki doesn't state prices

Well, there's not many green, zealous recurve bows (which is what I usually use for volley/barrage) except for Mallyx's Recurve Bow which might be hard to get with the way DoA is now.

If it's a flatbow you're looking for (Which is a good alternative), you have plenty of greens to pick from as you can see here. I'd probably go for one of the 3 endgame greens as they are usually easier to obtain.

Actually Vampiric Flatbow is the best for barrage IMO. I run 13 expertise on my barrage ranger though... I also use splinter and the weapon spell that removes 2 conditions from the party. It works well for me and the 5 health stealing is definitely worth it. You end up healing for more than the degen can do. Sundering is never worth it and anyone that says its good doesnt know game mechanics. Zealous is viable but you basically have to run 8 exp because thats the breaking point for a 5 energy skill. You will do significantly less damage this way.

I don't like Vamp on heroes. In a fight it barely compensates the health degen and out of the fight it is just annoying. On the character you can switch slots so it is fine there, but not on heros.
Green bow with zeal oder sunder is way better imho.
As for bow type: Flatbow is nice, so is a shortbow. I don't mind my rangers standing a little closer to the enemy. They have more armor then my monks and can block stuff

yeah. I also use a shortbow now on my main since its pretty accurate and fast w/out needing FW or RtW. I've been using a zealous bow now on Zenmai as an incendiary w/ sharpen daggers, apply poison, and way of perfection and its pretty good. Doesn't die...unless we're swamped w/ aggro

but overall she has good survivability regardless of the vamp.

A really good and cheap zealous flatbow iirc is chkkrs flatbow. Its a piss easy farm, pretty decent on a ranger, and is nice. With a vamp on a hero, its not that big a deal. The ranger will have the degen out of the fight, at which point the healers can handle it, and in the fight you will have the bonus. Only going to suck if you cant remove blind and/or other miss hexes.

Personally, I prefer BHA/Volley rangers because they are overall more useful i find.

I prefer 20/20 on heroes barrage but when i run barrage i put vampiric longbow/recurve. Don't like flatbow without using read the wind and favorable wind. But bha build is the most useful in dungeons

The Rt weapon spell Sundering Weapon does not cause deep wound but cracked armour. Once again, sundering bow strings are mostly useless.

Your vampiric bows are fine, it's not for the healing that they're used, but for the +5 health stealing.

Although Vamps are technically a +5 damage to all attacks, wouldn't an elemental weapon with a conjure add more damage? With just a level 3 conjure, it does +8 damage to all attacks, right? Or did I miss an important point?

You miss that a 8 elemental damage IS NOT a UNCONDITIONAL DAMAGE but 8 elemental damage more often are +2 damage if you are luckly
Elemental damage against a ranger with +100 elemental armor is a disadvantage

True that.

HOWEVER, damage is always set for 60AL. So if, by using a weakness (cold damage vs destroyer f.ex.) and/or cracked armor you can get the AL<=60 you also do MORE damage while vamp will always count as +5.

By using the wiki to determine which element is best used in your area, you can significantly increase the damage compared to the static vampiric.

Best choice would ofc be brutal weapon AND zealous bow (best of both worlds ^^) but hencies are really terrible when it comes to weapon spells, so its best to go zealous-barrage or elemental-conjure-barrage.
